This beautiful one of a kind Daytona isn’t in the best shape, but it is an original one off of a very pretty car. Personally I would dust it off, wash and wax the exterior, get rid of the disease on the interior, make driveable ad leave it as it is. I would never restore this car. The patina and the story it tells would be worth too much to me. Who cares if it knock a few dollars off the auction block? It was built to be driven and every rock chip and splattered bug would tell remind me how great a vehicle it is instead of returning it to more that showroom quality (cause none of the Concourse cars were as nice as they are now compared to when they rolled off the production line) and letting it rot in my garage.

I think what its going to take to get it drivable is going to be most the way to a restoration.

Depends how much “patina” I could get off of it. Something tells me the cost of a cosmetic restoration won’t be the bulk of the expense.

I love the Daytona. But Ferraris are vastly over appreciated and over priced.

And now it’s trickling down to other cars like classic Lancias and Alfa Romeos.

If it hasn’t already it’ll be BMW and Mercedes next.

This. Apparently the fastest way to make money on a car is to neglect it for 30-40 years.

I remember reading about a guy with a Jaguar XK120 that was talking about ‘barn finds’. He had his XK120 from new, kept up with maintenance, had it repainted when it needed it, kept the interior in great shape...and then one that sat in a garage for 25 years sold for more than it at auction. Its a bit silly.

Can they even verify that? like okay it doesn’t even look like they took the time to clear dirt to see what the VIN is or clear dirt on the back to read the model name. It looks like they just eyeballed the look of the ferrari and guessed the year.

Anyway, I don’t know how well a old ferrari can run without modern updates to it (does the thing even have ABS?) I’d at least want to put a modern ferrari OEM radio in it or something.

Why would it need ABS or a modern radio? You don’t need those things to drive one. The factory radio would be highly sufficient and better to be in the vehicle if you ever sold it and adding ABS would be ridiculously expensive and greatly hinder the value of the vehicle.

ABS systems are required on all new passenger cars sold in the EU since 2007 and in the USA since 2010, so I mean you can get really new cars without it.

Also they showed a picture of the manufacturer tag. This car is too old to have a modern 17 digit VIN which was required by the US in 1981.

I am not a fan of cars that are nasty, people didn’t drive the car like that when it was younger, so why now? Restore it. I really don’t get the cars that are rusty and moldy and they keep them like that. Just restore it correctly and drive it like is was then.

That is the ONLY Daytona with an aluminum body made for the road. The others were race cars. There is very little issue with provenance here. It’s also in Japan so probably not too hard to track it’s life.
